Kier were appointed as the main contractor of this £27.5m development for the shell and core of a 131,000sqft Grade A modern and eco-friendly office building. The Category B fit out valued at a further £5m was added half way through the 22 month programme. The commercial catering equipment package was specified and designed by Nova Design Associates Ltd.
We secured this project based on the specified equipment however, it took extensive discussions with the lead architect to develop the finishes for the servery counters. This included a variation to the value of £25k to include for quartz tops, glass frontages and café completely encased in white Corian. Although we were not involved with the design we were able to develop certain areas to make better use of space and flow at no additional cost to the contract.
Karl Jones (Director) was managing this contract in-house at GS Catering Equipment Ltd. Karl attended the appropriate pre-let meeting and attended numerous site meetings and site visits to ensure the contract ran smoothly.
The programme was developed in conjunction with the Main Contractor prior to starting on site. We liaised with the various subcontractors for the 1st fix cold and freezer rooms, canopies and wall cladding and notified them of the start date for their element of the installation so that programme could be met.
We received 5no variations for extras from white rock and wall cladding to servery finishes as per the client’s request. These additions were added onto the contract and the work coordinated with the relevant subcontractor to install prior to the catering equipment installation.
The original design was transferred into a service drawing to ensure all M&E services were put in place ready for the equipment installation. Due to minor changes required by the contractor the service drawing was revised 4no times before it was finalised to suit previously installed services.
Copies of RAMS were obtained from all subcontractors and submitted to the Main Contractor prior to them commencing onsite.
Following on from the kitchen installation which completed our element of works, we commissioned all the catering equipment and handed the areas over to the builder. Training was organised with manufacturers and delivered on site as scheduled.
The chosen quartz stone tops were discontinued during the construction stage, however a select number of slabs were still available in the UK. Our chosen counter supplier visited the storage depot to select the correct number and polar grain for continuity when installed.
